This club offers top-notch glider instruction in a modern, well-maintained aircraft fleet, all launched by winch. The Wormingford Gliding Club is situated in the heart of the Colchester/Braintree/Sudbury triangle and boasts up to 35 privately owned gliders and eight club-owned gliders in residence. The facility is friendly and welcoming, and the amenities are of the highest quality and well-maintained. The club offers a range of gliding sessions for everyone. The introductory session, The Gliding Experience, includes one winch launch. If you want more time in the air, you can try our Trial Lesson, which provides you with one or two flights. And if you're a budding glider pilot, our Mini-Course is perfect for you, featuring up to one hour of flight time spread over several flights in just one day. Not only will you learn the technical aspects of gliding, but you will also get to see the breathtaking area around Colchester from the air, including the stunning Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rolling Suffolk arable countryside that the area is known for.

Always wanted a flight in a glider to sample the experience, to get to fly it myself was something elseThe glider pilot all the other staff were superb, very friendly, approachable certainly know their stuff.I am still amazed at the acceleration from the winch during take off, certainly the quickest i have ever accelerated.I would recommend it to anyone

Trial Lesson
- 1-2 flights of up to 20 minutes, winch launches
- 3 months club membership

- Sun glasses are advised as it can be very bright under the canopy
- Suitable clothing to allow climbing in and out of the cockpit should be worn along with practical footwear such as trainers
- Layers are recommended as it can be cold on the airfield

- Under 18s must be accompanied and supervised at all times by a responsible adult when on the airfield
- Height restrictions: minimum 5ft, maximum 6ft 6ins
- Weight restrictions: minimum 4 stone 4lbs (27kg), maximum 16 stone 4lbs (103kg)

- The club is open for voucher flights from the beginning of April to the end of October
- Flying days are Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
- Dates and times are subject to availability
- Pre-booking is essential and the more notice you are able to give, the more likely you are to be able to secure the date of your choice
- You will need to take your voucher with you on the day. Once booked you are subject to the terms and conditions of the operator, including cancellation
- Flying is weather dependant and participants should telephone the club before setting off on the day

This was my first time in a glider,i have been in a two seater plane before were I took the controls Unfortunately the weather was against me taking the controls.The instructor was very good and friendly.I had a very good time and it was a good experience

I had a brilliant flight in a glider in a clear, sunny day with views for miles around. The pilot, Norbert, and all the volunteers at the Essex and Suffolk Gliding Club were enthusiastic, so friendly and made the experience a special one.
