As you travel along the beautiful East Somerset Railway line, you will indulge in a three-course culinary experience that perfectly complements this wonderful rail journey. Steam train rides are always popular, and this Somerset experience is no exception. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a relaxed Sunday lunch while watching the tranquil countryside pass by from your comfortable seat in a beautifully restored carriage. Immerse yourself in the plush surroundings of the Mendip Belle Wine and Dine train, where the ambiance exudes 'yesteryear glamour.' Each table is adorned with crisp white linen tablecloths, a charming table lamp, and heavy curtains framing the panoramic windows. As you depart from Cranmore Station, your steam train luncheon will begin with a choice of light starters, followed by your main course—a hearty option of meat or a vegetarian dish. You’ll then enjoy a delightful dessert, along with after-dinner coffee and mints, making this a truly memorable culinary experience. Vegetarian options are available for all courses where applicable, and alternative drinks can also be enjoyed. Your steam train journey will take you down the Somerset line to Mendip Vale Station, where the outbound journey terminates. Here, you can watch from the platform as the steam locomotive turns and reattaches to the opposite end of the carriages in preparation for your return journey. The entire round trip lasts approximately two hours, giving you ample time to enjoy your meal in comfort and style. This luxurious ride-and-dine steam train luncheon in Somerset offers a delightful way to spend your Sunday. It makes for a fantastic dining experience for families, groups of friends, or couples looking for a romantic weekend treat.

Meal and service very good. Train ride a bit disappointing, seemed to spend as much time stationary as on the move. It would have been better if we had been a group of four instead of two, when we would have filled the time with conversation.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch on the Mendip Belle. It was a well organised trip and the people were very helpful and courteous. It was a touch of nostalgia to ride on a steam train and although the journey was short, it was enjoyed. Each individual course was well timed with the journeys when the engine was moved to the other end of the train. It was a beautiful experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The meal was excellent and well presented. We were aware that the train would run up and down the line twice during the meal and the serving of the meal was very well planned to coincide with stops while the engine was moved to the other end of the train. The staff were very friendly and attentive. This was a really enjoyable experience.

Enjoyed lovely Sunday lunch staff very friendly. Train trip far to short so hence lots of time sat on a motionless steam train. Advised to be at station for1245 to board but had to wait on platfrom until 1215.

Was expecting a steam train journey, however the train only went at about 5 miles an hour and only traveled a short distance backwards and forwards along the same bit of track and also kept stopping for ages in between. Hardly a journey through the countryside Food was nice, but overall very disappointed.

We enjoyed the trip and had a great experience, mainly thanks to good weather and our fellow travellers.. As pointed out in an earlier review the route is very short, two trips to and from the station with two courses of the lunch at the same stop. We were rather puzzled as to why our preordered drinks were not readily available 20 minute plus wait and why we had to be there at 11.45 when the train didnt board until 12.10. However, it was still a good day out.

It was fantastic to see the Steam engine, and that was our main concern, however the information as to what was going on wasnt available. It would have been nice to be told that the train moves very slowly along a very short track for two and half hours whilst lunch is served. The meal was ok, starter was lovely but the Yorkshire puddings were soggy, better left off really, dessert was lovely too, all in all we had a lovely trip, it would just have been nice to know what form the trip was going to take.

The experience was very enjoyable. The food was good and the service excellent. Everyone was helpful, cheerful and polite. People need to be aware that the ride on the train itself is extremely short. it does tell you this in the information you get but I didnt realise just what a short way it actually is. Nevertheless, a worthwhile activity to take part in.

What a fantastic day. We arrived early and enjoyed a leisurely walk along the platform, taking in the station atmosphere and beautiful trains. We browsed in the model shop purchasing a much wanted n gauge engine. Then came the train ride and scrumptious lunch. It was truly superb from beginning to end and we were only sorry when the time came for us to disembark. The food, service and whole experience was unforgettable and one we hope to repeat againdefinitely.

For a Sunday lunch experience with a difference this trip was a great success. For the opportunity to experience something of the age of steam railways, this is not the place to be. Investment in further track is necessary if East Somerset Railway is going to be competative in this market place. The railway folk you chatted with were very helpful and very knowledgable. They just lack the basic ingredients of the 21st century tourist attraction.

There were six of us celebrating my husbands 65th birthday and this was a surprise treat for him. We all enjoyed the whole experience. The food and service were excellent. We were pleasantly surprised just how good the food was and the staff were very attentive. All in all it was a great day out.

The food and service was faultless and the whole experience was very well organised. The only minor criticism was the shortness of the journey only 4 miles of track in operation. However, this did not detract from us having a very pleasant nostalgic trip back to a by gone age.

Train, carriages, food wine good, disappointed in the actual train journey, only traveld about 20minutues in any direction which meant to complete the meal we went up and down the same bit of line 4 times.

Generally a very pleasant experience. Main course of Sunday lunch rather disappointing vegetarian option served with no gravysauce roast beef somewhat overcooked kept hot for at least an hour so rather dry. Why serve clearly imported parsnips swede in August when there is so much local, seasonal veg available. Staff were all very pleasant, helpful attentive though their own communication could have been better had to query our menu choice twice.

We are not train fanatics but just fancied something different to do. This is a journey backwards and forwards down a short section of track but more importantly its a journey back in time to a more peaceful age. The chuff of the trains and the quality of the rolling stock take you back to the 1950s. The food was perfectly acceptable and the staff really friendly. The place is set in lovely countryside and if you want an afternoon away from the madding crowd here it isIt was absolutely charming Well done all concerned.

Sunday lunch was disappointing, the carrots and swede was overcooked and looked like dishwater, there was only a teaspoon size of broccali, I left it, worse Sunday lunch I have ever had. The staff worked very hard and were very friendly. There was a lot of time with the train stood still as the railline is only a short one for such a long meal. In all I consider this present from my husband a waste of time, however the drive down to Somerset was very pretty.
