When you learn about World War 2 in the classroom at school, no amount of studying can really teach you about the lived experience of those with an active role in this conflict. That being said, everyone is familiar with the Spitfire that has become nothing short of a symbol of the WW2 skies of Britain. With its camouflage paint and circle rings on each wing, it’s instinctively recognisable. In this experience, you can get up close and personal with a slice of history and fly alongside these incredible aircrafts whilst enjoying a ride in a aeroplane or helicopter. Your pilot will be flying close by to the Spitfire and tell you where to look as this fabulous vintage aircraft darts across the sky and swoops nearby. As you’re taken within touching distance, you’ll be able to marvel at their distinct design and agility through the skies. If you’re a history buff, this flying experience alongside a Spitfire is nothing short of ideal. But you’re in for a further treat as both of these airfields have a large amount of aviation history as former RAF bases. Headcorn in the heart of Kent saw numerous Spitfires and Mustangs take off between 1942 and 1943 and remains of the WW2 squadrons and what they experienced can be seen in the accompanying museum. If taking off from North Weald, you’re also in luck as aircrafts have been taking off here since 1916. It skies have seen both wars and cold jet fighters over the years, with incredible views over London during take off. If you want to get up close to history, you won’t want to miss this incredible flight alongside a World War 2 Spitfire.

Absolutely a fabulous experience, I flew next to a spitfire in a helicopter, to see an icon of an aeroplane so close in mid air was amazing, it really brings a lump to your throat and would really recommend anyone thinking of doing this to get booked ASAP, parky the spitfire pilot was on top of his game and explained everything he was going to do before we took off, I for one will certainly be doing this again in the near future.
