It’s full steam ahead for a Family of Four, with tickets to enjoy a ride on a steam train on the Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire! This preserved heritage railway line is nestled in the Staffordshire countryside in the heart of the West Midlands, running for 22 miles from Froghall to Ipstones. It boasts some splendid steam locomotives, which, like the railway itself, are maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers. As you’ll discover, there’s so much to explore along the line, and because your tickets are unlimited for the day, the choice is yours as to whether you take in the whole ride, which is an hour and 45 minutes, departing at either 10:30am or 1:30pm, before the train runs around on the coaches to head back from Ipstones to Froghall. Or if you’re of a more leisurely disposition, you could alight at any of the stations along the line, whether that’s the peaceful halt of Consall, surrounded by beautiful scenery and boasting a nearby pub, The Black Lion, or the Grade II listed station at Cheddleton, where the HQ of the Railway Association is based, as well as a fascinating museum detailing the history of the railway and some stunning Victorian architecture, which is also close to the towpath along the Cauldron Canal and by the River Churnet. Once you’re back at Froghall, you could enjoy a fresh brew and a cake from the award-winning tea room. It’s safe to say that for steam train enthusiasts, this is a day that’s sure to leave you chuffed!
