East Kent Railway Tickets for Two

About the experience
Product ID: 15752
Those in Kent who want the chance to evoke the golden age of steam can do so with tickets for two to ride along the East Kent Railway. Spanning four miles on a round trip in length, this faithfully preserved heritage steam railway was first established in 1911, originally running from Shepherdswell to Richborough Port on the east coast where it served the transportation of coal from the collieries. It was closed in 1948, and lay dormant until 1985, when a team of enthusiasts clubbed together to save the last few miles of track. Passenger trips have been running here for almost 30 years, now running from Shepherdswell to Eythorne, which passes through the Golgotha tunnel and through picturesque Kent countryside. You will be riding either a steam or diesel hauled passenger train, which run regularly throughout the season here. Don't forget there's lots of other things to explore on your visit here too, from the visitor centre in the converted signal box at Shepherdswell, the small museum which has an 00 gauge model railway, Colonel's Cafe where you can pop in for a brew and a bite to eat, and the nearby Knees Woodland which is ideal for a countryside stroll. Eythorne, meanwhile, has the signal box to discover, as well as outdoor picnic tables to sit and watch the trains go by on, along with a static train bar and restaurant at the terminus of the EKR. Plus, Shepherdswell sits near the Southeastern main line station that runs to London Victoria and Dover Priory - making it ideally connected for a grand day out full of railway nostalgia!
