About the experience

For military aviation enthusiasts everywhere, we have the Real McCoy with this exclusive VIP Spitfire Tour at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar. This spacious and airy hangar hosts a superb assortment of Spitfires and other iconic vintage aircraft. Better still, this is a private tour, as the hangar is not open to the general public - so you can really experience what goes on in a working hangar such as this one, and take it all in. The Spitfire team will welcome you on arrival at the hangar reception. And it’s once you step through the door from reception to the hangar itself that you suddenly take in what there is to see - and for any Spitfire lovers, there’s a veritable feast for the senses! As the loving restoration work goes on at the hangar, it means that it feels more interactive than any equivalent aircraft museum you’ll have visited before - in fact, we’d say that Biggin Hill sets the gold standard, as you have the chance to get up close to these iconic aircraft, and to take in the smell and sight of the leather and oil. And when the planes are fully restored and certified as airworthy, these, along with several other privately owned Spitfires - are kept here. Your host will accompany you on the tour to ensure you can be guided around the working hangar safely, and also tell you all the fascinating facts there are to know about these Spitfires. There are only a certain number left that are still considered airworthy, so this is a real privilege. This would make an ideal gift idea for a Spitfire fan, and at under £50 it’s fantastic value too.

My wife and I had an excellent and most informative day. Our guide was most friendly and gave us very instructive and pleasurable tour. We both thought it was a brilliant day out very well done to all involved who made it possible.
    Trevor Hill
First class visit with an enthusiastic and informed guide.
    Rob
Brilliant all round, if you love the spitfire you will love this experience. Highly recomended for Sitfire fans.
    Rob
Excellent in every way, friendly, funny and very knowledgeable guide, a trully unique experience.
    Joe Yusuf
Interesting glimpse into the history of Biggin Hill and the Spitfire. Although I enjoy planes and I am interested in World War 2, I am not a technician and I found some of the content went over my head. Nevertheless the guide was obviously dedicated to his subject, knew his stuff and enjoyed his role. The facts about Biggin Hill were very interesting. Seeing planes and other vehicles close up give a real impression of how it was at the airfield during the 40s. A very enjoyable couple of hours.
    Bernard Cunningham
Sign's to location would be better, 2 Taxi drivers from East Croydon didn't know where it was. On that tho, got to be said it was a most thrilling and enjoyable experience. The guide was excellent and extremely knowledgeable. highly recommend. B Cunningham

It was a bit confusing as to gain entry as there was a barrier across the road, but waited and another car drove through so I followed it, once in I was greeted with a brief rundown we were greeted by Austin our tour guide we were fortunate to see up close a spitfire on the pad preparing for a flight the museum was incredible the hurricane and the spitfire are from the queen’s flight although you were not allowed to photograph them, i felt quite proud as I am of polish descendents and the two aircraft were in polish colours especially the hurricane which was in the famous 303 squadron. In the hour and a half there was so much to see will have to go again
    Adrian Guice
Excellent! The tour guide - think his name was Austin (a brummie) - was so knowledgeable and interesting. Really enjoyed it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Arrived on Battle of Britain day to a very warm, and friendly welcome from the staff. Our tour of the hangar was led by a very knowledgeable member of staff who had many tales of the Spits and their pilots. A very relaxed tour of the hangars with lots of Spitfires, Hurricanes, and even one of the only 2 flying ME BF109 Messerschmitt in the world that can still fly. We were even lucky enough to have a Hurricane land, and park-up just outside the hangars for a few minutes and head off again. Finally topped off with a sit in the "Spirit of Kent". For me and my wife it was a wonderful few hours that we shall never forget.
    Brian Gill
    Useful, up close experience
    Carole McVeigh
    Excellent day.
    Malcolm Parkinson
Fantastic insight into the history of this iconic aircraft. Plus the chance to get up real close and in my case actually sit in the cockpit, which as a private pilot was truly awe inspiring. Highly recommended, I’m now saving up to fly in one
    Dominic

Really fascinating to see the work being done by the Heritage Hanger and to sit in one of their very special Spitfires. Was quite emotional to see and hear all about the aircraft and the pilots that flew in them. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

    ROB TUCKER
Wonderful afternoon. Guided by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable gentleman. Shame the weather was abysmal so we couldn't watch any takeoffs during our visit.
    Valerie Marshall
We had an amazing visit. Austin was a very knowledgable guide and brought the history to life with his talk. As I used to work for AT in the building many years ago it brought back loads of memories Thank you
    Brian Hiscutt

    ian stone
excellent if you love spitfires this is the tour for you.to actually sit in one of these icons lets you experience what it was like for the brave men who fought in them. the guide had all the information you need to know about these wonderful airplanes on the day we had the bonus of a hurricane in the hanger as well
    Eliott Turner

    Shelagh Simpson
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Not rushed. Plenty of time to look at planes. Host very knowledgable
    Jim Middleton
It was an amazing experience, something I was looking forward to and I was not disappointed, the tour was very good and informative but the crowning glory was sitting in the Spitfire and while I was doing this, outside another Spitfire was roaring into action with another lucky person on his Spitfire flight, definetely something to plan for the future.
    Peter Atkins
The Spitfire tour was arranged by daughter and it was great.Having worked on Spitfires in the R.A.F. many, many years ago it took me back to those days. To see the aircraft and sit in an airworthy one made my day. Many thanks. Peter Atkins.
    Robert Corser
Birthday present, love Kent so though technically LONDON loved driving to Biggin Hill, lovely tour around the Spitfires great afternoon, good guide forgot camera so may have to go again!
    Alan Hurkett
Amazing day..from start to finish...still can't believe I actually sat in one of our nation's precious gems, an airworthy MkIV Spitire! Thankyou to Laurie our excellent guide..
    Rob
Exceptional tour. The young man who led the tour was very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions posed. A very enjoyable couple of hours
    Richard Peckham
If its Spitfires you love, this is definitely the tour to take. Lasted about two and a half hours with a very knowledgeable guide that gave detailed information on each aircraft. Worth every penny, and will be going again at some point, may even do the sit in a Spit next time, as this is as close as I am likely to get to the fly in a Spit.
    M Bough
    excellent!
    David King
It was an extremely interesting experience. The tour guide was very informative and made the tour very very interesting. The sit in the spitfire was amazing and I would certainly recommend this tour to a friend.
    paul wray

    Malcolm
Great tour, thank you, relaxed, hugely informative, helped that we were there the day before the air show and saw several fly-pasts! Excellent afternoon.
    Stuart Wellard
First class, informative and relaxed tour with a 'free roaming' of the hanger to take pictures. My tour and sit in a spit was on arrivals day so we have the opportunity to stop the tour and watch the demo displays. Great to see the various stages of refurbishment and aircraft construction. If your an aviation enthusiast this is a must.
    Paul
Amazing tour. So many aircraft to see and get close up to. At one point the flying Spitfire taxied up to the hangar and our guide took us out of the hangar to look around it and watch it take off. Our Guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and clearly these planes are his life. Great to see so much being done to preserve and rebuild these beautiful planes. If you like Spitfires this is an amazing place to get up close and personal and even sit in a real Spitfire.
    James
Relaxed and informative. Amazing to see so many aircraft up close, flying and at different stages of Restoration.
    Jeremy Roots-Smith
To be able to see at close range the work that goes into keeping these iconic aircraft in the air and bringing others back from what at first appear to be hopeless piles of scrap is a truly fascinating experience. Having a guide who knew not just the general history of Spitfires, Hurricanes and Messerschmitt Bf109 but the specific detail of each of the aircraft present in the hanger made the tour so much more enjoyable than a mere walk through a group of static exhibits seen from behind barriers, with only the information which could be presented on a small notice would have been. It was a superb visit which of course was topped off by being able to sit in the cockpit of one of the aircraft. This tour was a birthday present from a friend. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who has an interest in aircraft, particularly the older warbirds.
    robin judd
as this was a birthday present it was the best present ever
    Peter Dooley
Excellent visit. The tour was well led by a pilot who knew everything about each individual plane's flying, victories and crashing history and their pilots. There are no barriers to stop you getting close to the planes and sitting in one is a real privilege.
    Lee howard
Very good day and we'll led by the guide.
    Allan Oliver
A moment of a life time being able to get so close and personal with the iconic Spitfire. Very friendly staff making you feel most welcome. The opportunity to sit in the MK IX fulfilled a life time dream - well, well worth it.
    Robert Taylor
    fantastic

    fantastic
    Mike
The Spitfire Experience guide was friendly, knowledgeable and able to answer all the questions fired at him. The tour was comprehensive and the "sit in the Spitfire" cockpit was a lifetime wish come true. Thanks to all concerned. Highly recommended.
    Geoff Usmar
Excellent visit, superb aircraft on display with very good, knowledgable Tour Guide who explained everything I asked about. I had the "sit in a Spitfire" option which was well worth it, I was not hurried and again the Tour Guide answered any questions. Whole experience was friendly and relaxed with more aircraft on display than I had expected. Thoroughly recommended to an enthusiast.
    Alex Robertson
Great experience from start to finish including the weather!. Tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, surreal experience to be that close to such great planes with that much history attached to them. Would recommend this to anyone.
    Mark Tomlinson
An brilliant and entertaining couple of hours. I loved every minute of it.
    John Boland

Great experience from start to finish. Really interesting hangar with lots of planes and a very knowledgable friendly guide. Loved sitting in the spitfire. I'd recommend this experience to anyone.
    Jean Findlay
Truly fabulous experience made all the better by the input of our guide, Austin. His background information put real flesh on all the bones. Thank you
    Patrick Phillips
This was an incredible experience the guide was first class with his passionate knowledge of the mechanics and history of the aircraft under restoration and also those airworthy, there was no urgency everyone had the time to enquire and ask questions which were always answered, when sitting in the aircraft all the controls were explained with no rush to hurry you up to get out my brother and I would recommend this tour its great
    Howard Witt
Really interesting day. Steve (I think) was very knowledgeable and gave a lot of insight into the history. Great job.
    Martyn Wardell
Vip hanger tour and sit in a spitfire was brilliant. To see engineers working on parts of the spitfires made you think of those that built them long ago.The historical stories from all of the spitfires were amazing. The sitting in the spitfire was out of this world, you got a real feel for how the young airman felt.A truely wonderful few hours sent at Biggin Hill.
    Stephen Luker
Could not have been better. Guide was friendly and knowledgeable- nothing was too much trouble. 11/10
    Graham Radford
Very interesting morning and knowledgable guide made it well worth the visit,
    Roy Bawden
Started promptly with knowledgeable guide and useful introduction. There was plenty of time available to view the hangars and the Spitfires and my 86-year old father, ex-RAF and no longer as mobile as he once was, was able to get into the cockpit and spotted the motor-bike type he rode whilst in service. So an excellent day.
    Penny ilisse
Easy to purchase and organise my partner had a great tour of biggin hill and he had a wonderful experience sitting in a spitfire plane, unforgettable experience
    Brian Johnson
I loved the experience from start to finish. This was a 70th birthday present and included the 'sit in a spitfire'. The guide was informative, amusing and very enthusiastic. I was in 7th heaven as this was a dream come true. To get close and personal with so many legendary warbirds was an honour. The skill of the restorers has to be seen to be believed.
    Jane Johnson
Informal, small-group tour led by very personable and knowledgeable guide. Great to get "up close and personal" with these fantastic warbirds and see how they are being restored. My husband got to fulfil his dream to "sit in a Spit" and hasn't stopped grinning yet! A great special birthday present
    mike wallworth
Excellent experience. Now saving up for a flight.
    John Matthews
A thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Tour very relaxed and informative, just right . Please get a decent coffee machine !
    David lawson
It was a dream come true.to stand next to a spit was amazing to sit in one Was first class.the tour was brilliant the tour guide Paul was funny and great to be with.
    Sandra
My husband was given the tour and sit in spitfire experience at Biggin Hill and I purchased just the tour. It was a great way to spend a couple of hours. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and clearly loved his job. It was great to be up close and to touch and look inside all the spitfires. Nice easy transaction to redeem the voucher via the phone.
    Pete Evans
Very interesting, thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour, great to see all the restoration in action.
    Geoff Busbridge
Great tour and very informative guide. Shame I had to chase my booking conformation twice.
    peter butler
Very good. Enjoyed the tour will return again.
    R Martin
The knowledge of the tour guide was very good and at times amusing. Thoroughly enjoyable.
    Mark Rance
Excellent tour and both myself and my father enjoyed it thoroughly. The tour guide was very informative and answered all the questions we threw at him. Now trying to save up for a flight in one !!!
    LARRY ALFORD
Having travelled over 100 miles, I was disappointed to be told that the coffee machine was broken but "I could get a drink in the cafe down the road!" and my wife had to wait for me while I was on the tour without being offered a drink. We also had to ask for the lights to be put on as it was very dark and cold in reception. However, the experience itself was above my expectations. Sitting in the cockpit was indeed a joy but I think a little more could have been made of this experience by maybe having a tape playing engine noise or maybe some appropriate music. However, the person who took us round was very interesting and brought a lot of it to life.
    Graham Meech
Excellent tour. Would recommend to anyone.
    Barbara Smith
Great tour and informative. Directions when close good but it would be good to have directions from M25 as that was a real issue.
    Emma
We booked this tour for my dad's 70th birthday and it did not disappoint! The guide was passionate and knowledgeable and the Spitfires are magnificent to get up close too! The option to sit in a Spit was brilliant and made my dad's day!! Definitely a special day out!!
    Sam Cobley
Very interesting. Great to get up close to the Spitfires.
    Eleanora Small
Great day, guy would show us around was very knowledge about Spitfires, would highly recommend.
    Ian C
A working Warbird restoration hangar and not a museum! Sensible sized group made the tour seem personal & Paul our guide on the day was excellent. But not as impressive as the warbirds on display everywhere you looked. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
    Sue Torre
I bought the VIP Tour and Sit in a Spitfire for my Brother's 60th birthday and I bought just the VIP tour for me so that I could join him and take photos. Paul who did the tour could not have been more helpful and his knowledge of all the facts surrounding the Spitfires we saw was astounding. My 60 year old brother was like a little boy in a sweetshop. Paul is one of those rare people who can make EVERYBODY feel special. It really was the best present I could have given my brother for his special birthday (well apart from him having an actual flight in a Spitfire but I'll have to save up a bit more for that). The whole experience was amazing and extremely good value for money.
    David Parish
Very interesting & well worth the visit. Saw the 'boys' who sat in & flew these aircraft for real, in a whole new light ! Thanks Paul, still trying to remember where we met.
    Viv Stephenson
From the time I arrived the experience was fantastic. Such friendly staff and enthusiastic, knowledgeable guides. Nothing was too much and a service that made it feel tailor made for the individual. The hangars are so accessible and the atmosphere so comfortable. Getting so close to the aircraft is a great experience, and the restorers were keen to answer questions while they worked. Sitting in a Spitfire was definitely the special treat I thought it would be. These craft are so rare and the skill and expertise of the crew here are reflected in the superb condition of the exhibits. I would love to have a flight in one! Hopefully, that's the next step! I couldn't recommend this experience enough; it won't ever be forgotten.
    andy hall
we had a great day I thought that the whole experience was well worthwhile I thought paul, our guide was very good and he gave us loads of information
    Stuart McGeechan
Whilst this was aimed at giving the tour to my father and father-in-law, I personally found the whole experience first class and certainly something that I have already discussed with friends who I feel would enjoy this experience. Great time, great pace by the guide (Paul I think) who was both extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic - 1st rate
    Jules Turner
My Spitfire experience was fantastic. Because I left it late in the year, I had an exclusive tour (there was only me). My guide, Paul was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgable. It was clear he enjoyed what he did. I will certainly be back again sometime, maybe even for a flight. I will also be recommending the tour to others. I realised one of my boyhood dreams of being up close and personal with these incredible and legendary aeroplanes.
    Ian Harkness
I thought that the whole experience was well worthwhile. I would have preferred to have sat in the Spitfire out of the hanger which could I suppose happen in the Summer. I thought Paul, our guide was very good.
    martin larner
In a word awesome. (I still think if my wife really loved me she would have paid for flight) ..................................(only kidding!)
    John Grant
Being an ex RAF engine fitter, I have always admired aircraft. So to celebrate my 75th birthday in touching distance of about 14 beautifully restored Spitfires, was a lifetime experience. But to actually sit in and handle the controls of one, that had seen service in WW2, was mind blowing.
    Nigel Scullion
What a fantastic experience, Austin the tour guide was knowledgeable, entertaining and enthusiastic what more could you want? And the icing to sit in a Spitfire that had seen service in WW2 , how can you top that (apart from a flight in one ) . For me a complete sensory overload, made all the more poignant as my visit was armistice day at 11am
    Claire Anstey
I enjoyed my hangar visit immensely. Austin was really knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and to be around so many Spitfires and all of the other occupants in the hangars was just unforgettable. The fact that the mechanics were working as we were shown round made it far more special, rather than being in a museum, and to sit in the cockpit of a real plane, one which I have seen flying and admired on many occasions, was the cherry on the icing on the cake! I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon. Thank you and keep up the good work
    Heather Scullion
I just accompanied my husband on his birthday treat and thought it wasn't really my thing but Wow it was amazing, now totally hooked. Made all the better by the fantastic guide Austin. Everyone should go.
    Rob Dyson
Absolutely brilliant,I am 60 years old and I was as excited as a small child let loose in a sweet shop, there was just me one to one with the guide Austin and he knew his stuff and was very interesting to talk with. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone,in fact I already have to family and friends.
    Wayne Groome
If Spitfires or historic planes are your interest this is a fabulous experience. Obviously the central theme is about Spitfires (and the rebuilding of them) but there are a handful of other planes there. What made it so very good was the unhurried time given, the extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide (thank you, Paul) and of course, the opportunity to sit in a Spitfire. That is an extra cost but well worth it although you do need to be agile enough to manage it (but people of all ages do manage it - my mum's 87). We were in a group of 5 although I think the max size is 6 unless by special arrangement. If we could give it 6 stars we would.
    Anna
My father really enjoyed his tour. 1st class service :-)
    Katrina Anderson
A really interesting place to visit and our tour guide was excellent. He answered all our questions and really knew his stuff. There were 6 of us in the group and he gave everyone enough time to really enjoy the aircraft and to ask any questions they wanted. The tour moved at just the right speed and it was great when we could sit in one at the end. An excellent experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. Great value for money.
    Richard coveney
Fascinating., but then m love Spitfires!
    Clive Constable
This was not a new experience in that I have been studying and watching spitfires etc. for many years. However it was a great and memorable new opportunity to visit a centre of expertise and craftsmanship, with a terrific collection of WW2 aircraft. We were well looked after and there was no rush or petty restriction, making it a great visit capped of course by getting into the aircraft. Thoroughly recommended!
    Ian Friar
Very hands-on & personal experience. Being up close to these fantastic machines is a very rare experience and actually sitting in a Spitfire could only be outdone by flying in one. An experience that I hope to achieve in the future. Excellent value for money.
    John Frascona
Went on a Friday and thus the group was small which meant that it was a more personal experience. Very knowledgeable guide who answered all our questions.
    Peter Clift
The guide, Paul, gave us an informative, friendly and informal tour of the Heritage hanger. He was very knowledgable about his subject and his enthusiasm shone through. It's fascinating to see the aircraft in all stages of rebuild and repairs. Of course, the highlight of the visit was to be able to sit in a working Spitfire and the icing on the cake was the landing and taxiing up to the hanger of a real life operating Spitfire.
    Tiffany Webster
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and had the added bonus of seeing a spitfire come in to land right in front of us. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and it was a thrill to see so many of these beautiful planes up close. My partner will never forget his 'sit in a spit'
    David Pfeiffer
A really interesting visit/experience made even better by Paul our guide whose knowledge was excellent. Anyone remotely interested in Spitfires should ensure they visit. For me a fabulous present.
    Robb OConnor
A unique chance to get close up to these wonderful aircraft. You will be met at reception and brought through the hangar at a leisurely pace there is no rushing, with your guide taking time to give you the background on each individual aircraft present. You will be close up to see maintenance on aircraft and you can touch them. Add the sit in the cockpit and it gives you a unique chance to see what it felt like as your guide talks you through the controls and explains some of the features to you. All in all a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anybody who has an interest in these old warbirds. I was also fortunate to be there as 2 spitfires took off and returned from flights . To be a matter of metres away from the sound and smell of a merlin is great.
    Chris Vertigan
Excellent tour to see these wonderful aircraft close up and the effort and care to repair and maintain them.
    SImone
The most wonderful day out, my Grandfather thoroughly enjoyed the tour and 'sit in a spit' Highly recommend - Great value for money!
    sylvia lewis-ranwell
Fantastic.,The guide was so friendly. MANY THANKS SYLVIA.
    Phillip Power
Enjoyed the experience very much, Paul was very informative and very helpful. It was a very interesting day.
    robin
I recieved my experiance as a christmas present from my daughter ,when i did decide to go it was easy to book and was going three days later. On arriving i was made welcome by paul and really enjoyed the tour guided by the very informative paul who also took the photos of me sitting in a spitfire, all in all a very enjoyable experience.
    Mick McSorley
An absolute pleasure from start to finish. Our guide, Robin Brooks, an acknowledged authority and author of several books on aviation was a joy to be around - friendly, accommodating, and very patient, nothing was too much trouble. The collection of aircraft is breathtaking with several airworthy Spitfires, a Hurricane, and even a pristine ME109. Mighty Merlin engines adorn the hangar and engineers work quietly in the background weaving their magic on these stunning historic aircraft. Sitting in the cockpit of an airworthy Spitfire, in my case a Mk XVI, was an amazing experience and one I never thought I would be ticking off my bucket list! The tour was informative but informal and taking photos was encouraged, and for a Spitfire fan like me, I felt like Howard Carter in the tomb of Tutankhamen! As luck would have it I saw Two Spitfires take off and one land, but this might not always be the case of course. At one point 3 Spitfires and one Hurricane were lined up outside the Hangar and even Robin remarked what a magnificent sight they were, and that at any moment he was half expecting the call to 'Scramble!' Absolutely magnificent experience more than worth the money. Many, many thanks. Mick McSorley
    Dave
The wife bought me a 'sit in a Spit' ticket for the birthday. Had a fantastic time. Turned up to Biggin hill to be warmly welcomed a BHHH member. Sitting in a Spitfire was certainly a fantastic moment. I was guided about for over an hour and a half. Great time, highly recommend it. Already recommended to friends.
    Phil Rawlings
Although the tour was by a stand-in guide (therefor I have no reference to the normal tour by regular guides), the enthusiasm and knowledge was top of the range. The work of the hangar, the aircraft on display and the meaning to us of Britain historically was made very clear and was on the whole truthful and honest. The high cost of maintenance was well explained and documented so no one was left in any doubt that this all comes at a cost i.e. flying in or viewing these marvellous machines costs money. Personally I was already a convert but the viewing exceeded my expectations and I have some fantastic photographs to aide my own memory as well as influence others to take the tour or better still fly the Spit. To have sat in a 1940s still active Spitfire is most definitely one off the "Bucket List". Now if only I can convince Mrs R that a flight is another box ticked.....
    Tony Bavin
Excellent tour conducted by an enthusiast of not only the hangers and aircraft but aviation particularly WW11 in general, this is not a museum but a working environment and all the better for it.
    John G
This is an excellent treat for any Spitfire fans. In our case, the party of two ranged from 8 to 70 and it is hard to say which one enjoyed it more. The people are friendly and helpful and you get loads of time sitting in the Spitfire and being given so much instruction you feel you could just about fly it. I will be back.
    Len Armstrong
Had a great afternoon plenty of spitfires to see and get up close and personal too, good knowledge of history of the spitfires and other planes in the hangers. made to free really welcome thank you.
    Ken Howard
It was an absolute pleasure to meet and talk to such professional and dedicated experts who clearly are passionate about restoring Spitfires, Hurricanes and other WWII planes to their former glory! Sitting in a Spitfire was a lifelong ambition truly fulfilled! My only problem was the lack of instructions on how to find Heritage Hangars and poor signage at Biggin Hill, leading to a long walk for old legs and toddlers!
    Jayne Walker
My Dad really enjoyed his " sit in a spitfire" experience. Thank you to the friendly staff.
    Barry Brailey
You have got to have a passion for this experience.Very impressed in what they are achieving in the hanger a shame some go abroad. There were times when I could not hear the quide it may be worth considering head sets for the future to enable you to hear everything.
    Adrian Batchelor
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience , very relaxed ,very informative the only issue we had was the volume of the radio in the hanger made it difficult to hear what was being said. But overhaul it was great. Regards Adrian and Audrey.
    Graham Penman
A very relaxed, unhurried and enjoyable experience. As technical as you want but something that even a casual enthusiast would enjoy. Highly recommended.
    sally
I brought this for my husband, a great day was had by both of us. Just need to save up for flight experience now.
    Dave
A fantastic experience, very informative and not being rushed around the hanger made the tour feel longer than it was. Sitting in the Spit was the high light and gives you some idea what things may have been like to fly one. An added treat for us was that a Spit was waiting to take off and they were testing the engine and to hear it roar was fantastic, great timing! It was great seeing these fantastic machines up close and machines that worked rather than the ones you normally see at museums. If you like Spitfires and what they stand for, we would definitely recommend it.
    Bryan Triccas
I purchased this for my wife but to be honest absolutely loved the tour and staffs attitude and attention to detail. If you have a passion for these wonderful machines then don't hesitate the tour guide knows each plane and its provenience - fantastic. My wife was totally in her element and loved every minute. - Thank you all!
    Voy Chmura
In general the experience was great, but I was disappointed in not being able to hear everything the guide was saying. This was due to the narrow passage marked out in the hangar for walking along. I would like to have been able to have more access to parts of the hangar to take more realistic photos of the Spitfires in the Hangar. With the number of people attending it was not possible to be near the guide and it was quite noisy, what with a Spitfire departing on an experience flight during the tour.
    John
Amazing experience at the Spitfire hangar. The highlight sitting in an actual cockpit. Paul was a great guide with fantastic knowledge.
    Chris
A fantastic experience. An unhurried stroll around the Heritage Hangar with Paul's unscripted & knowledgeable commentary complementing being in the presence of these wonderful & immaculate machines. Sitting in the Spitfire was sublime. The sense of purpose & history oozing from every rivet.
    NEIL WOOD
Very interesting, great fun, because the guide was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and great value. We spent two hours surrounded by Spitfires with the two-seater coming and going outside; we could get close to everything and there were few limitations on what we could see and touch. I have started saving for another visit.
    Phil Tattersall
What a great day out, all of the staff are really friendly, and Paul brings it to life with his knowledge and history of all of the aircraft, the tour was never rushed and to sit in a Spit at the end was the end of a great day. Thanks very much to all at Biggin Hill
    Stephen denney
Hi my son got this for me as a 60th birthday present we had a great time there very laid back no rush plenty of time to take pictures and ask questions lots of interesting things to look at if you like spitfires then this is a must go and enjoy yourself I did thank you
    David
This was an excellent experience - getting up close to heritage working aircraft! I also got to sit in a Spitfire which was amazing This was a day I shall remember for a long time
    Tony Green
I was in my element! To actually touch a spitfire and a hurricane escorted by Paul who was a mine of information. He knew everything there was to know about these planes. It was a joy to spend time with him. What a great day!
    Stewart Puttick
Superb. A great display of the iconic spitfire and a bonus when one started up in front of us.
    A C Buggins
Paul knew the history of the aircraft within the hanger and gave us lots of info' regarding the various rebuild status of each. On our particular party was a 96yr old veteran who was able to climb into a Spitfire virtually unaided. He last climbed out of one in May 1946. So you never know who you are likely to meet!
    Charlie Hayes
Hangar tour and Sit in a Spit; fantastic knowledge from Paul, the hangar is full of Spitfires and the flights were leaving outside so we got that sight noise and smell as a bonus. Excellent. Thanks
    David F
I did the Biggin hill heritage hangar Spitfire tour with a seat in the Spitfire. For me it was a 280 mile round trip and it was still well worth it. The tour was given by Paul and you can tell that he knows his stuff and he has a real passion for the aircraft and is very good with people. You get up close with the aircraft and are encouraged to touch them. The seat in the Spitfire was great and you don't need the physic of a racing snake to fit in (thank goodness). I can highly recommend this tour and just need to save up for the flight in the 2 seater Spitfire.
    Stewart
Everything and more than I expected. Fantastic day out. Our guide was very funny and informative. If you interested in spitfires or just like ww2 planes and aviation then your love this.
    Rosie
We had a terrific time. Paul was an exceptional guide - formidably knowledgable and able to make it interesting to both the aviation experts in our group and those with no knowledge whatsoever. It was really an exceptional way to celebrate a birthday with a small group of friends. Thank you so much.
    Hugh Stewart
Brilliant loved it, father & son, both enjoyed the experience & the history. So nice to be able to get near those iconic planes with someone like Paul with such knowledge, to guide us. To sit in a Spitfire, a boyhood dream. Thank you a great idea, I will always remember that day.
    Richie czykita
Took my dad for a surprise fathers day present.....he love it! Was like seeing a kid on christmas morning! Staff were very helpful and paul who showed us around was fantastic, didnt rush us around and let us look in our own time with some fantastic info! A must for anyone who has an interest in ww2 and aircraft!
    Terry Jones
A brilliant and very informative experience. Loved every minute and the guide was very interesting and knowledgable. Thank you, you have made a man very happy.
    Geoff Smith
Wonderful experience. Excellent guide. Couldn't fault it. Well done
    Ken & Ilona English
This was a lovely experience, to be able to get up close and so personal with so many iconic classic planes. To sit in a Spitfire and learn its history and the history of the others was truly amazing, as was seeing the restoration process and to be able to get so close to the aircraft being worked on. My wife and I both enjoyed the time spent on this tour and we both thought that it was very well arranged and very informative. Thank you for a truly enjoyable time.
    Brian
Very informative. The guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. Didn't get a chance to see a Spitfire take off or hear one running, but all in all a good 90 mins.
    Kev Croughan
This was a fantastic experience. From the moment we entered the building we were made so welcome. The tour and the volume of information we received was absolutely first class. Our chaperone was brilliant, very knowledgeable and equally personable. We had plenty of time sitting in the Spitfire itself, and stopped during the afternoon several times to watch other planes landing and taking off. Nothing was rushed. It was a great experience for sure.
    Keith Endersbee
A delightful and informative visit with a friendly and enthusiastic guide. Just getting close to those iconic aircraft and to see some of the internal detail of those being restored to flying condition was a lifetime experience. Just one thing that would have made the trip from Suffolk perfect - a cup of tea on arrival! Could a dispensing machine or flasks be considered?
    Chris Stock
Really enjoyed the informality and relaxed nature of the tour. The guide allowed plenty of time for us to view the aircraft up close, and was happy to answer any questions, adding background history and some amusing anecdotes. The experience could only have been improved if there was a tea/coffee at the end of the tour (install machine?). A great day.
    Frank Haggarty
The experience was better than I had expected, especially as Paul explained the history of each aircraft and related stories which was fascinating. I was only expecting to see Spitfires, it was a bonus to see other aircraft, and hear the stories about them too.
    Debbie collins
The spitfire tour at the heritage hanger was absolutely amazing, i brought this tour for my husband for his birthday who's a spitfire nut. The tour guide was very good and was full of lots of information about every single plane, I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who has a love for spitfires, my husband was grinning from ear to ear the whole time. Definitely worth the money.
    steve
What set this apart was the chance to get really close to the aircraft and see the details of their construction, together with the knowledge displayed and communicated by the guide.
    Mike Staunton
Just an excellent tour and was luck enough to watch a Spitfire start-up and take off. My Father-in-Lay flew a Spitfire in WW2, my wife sat in the seat and could take in it how it felt for him. A touch emotional..
    elaine wallis
The gentleman who took us round on the visit was very pleasant, the only problem was his voice did not carry so I missed a lot of what he said. I thought it might be the music and drills being used but it was the same in the next hanger
    G W Burton
The guide was most interesting and able to answer all the questions asked of him. A most interesting day.
    colin wallis
had a very enjoyable visit it was an honour to see these planes that flew in w w 2. the highlight of the visit was to sit in a spitfire thank you for this chance, the gentleman who took us round was very pleasant and informative, would recommend this to any one.
    A lampard
If you are into spits this is heaven a must for the man and boy.
    Terry Still
An excellent visit, very enjoyable, and very informative, Paul was a very knowledgable guide
    Jane Freeman
We had an excellent day, it was amazing to see all these aircraft in different stages of restoration. The gentleman who took us on the tour was very informative and extremely pleasant, a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. Thank you
    Derek Hood
A very enjoyable day but had problems locating the hangar on arrival as they had moved and not told anyone.
    John Sibbett.
My spine tingled as soon as I entered the hanger and saw those beautiful spits . Paul Campbell added to the overall thrill with his interesting stories and technical info about the planes. The restoration work going on was also very interesting. The other interesting exhibits added to the enjoyment. Then to finally sit in the cockpit of a Spit....Wow!!!
    Kevin Thurlow
Wonderful. Very friendly and knowledgeable guide. The chance to get close to such beautiful aircraft was a dream come true. I never thought I would sit in one. Even when I was back at work the next day, I was still smiling.
    paul jones
superd day out with excellent, non rushing staff.
    Paul Makin
What can you say. If you like historic aircraft, or just love Spitfires then this is a place not to miss. Sitting in the Spitfire is just the icing on the cake. I have never been anywhere that allows such an up close and personal experience as this. This is not a museum, but a working company that allows the public access to their work space. You don't just see the outside of a shiny aeroplane, but you see the nuts, bolts and rivets. The guide and those working on the aircraft allow you access to their world and provide history of each aircraft in their care (even if it is an Me 109). May they long continue.
    Tony Scarle
Very informative in a relaxed atmosphere with a great selection of Spitfire to look at.
    Neil Rogers
Had a great time looking over the various MK's of Spitfire and Hurricane with our guide who was very informative. The icing on the cake though was to sit in the Spit' MK9 and get a feel for what it would be like to be in charge of it, plus at the same time having the instrumentation explained. A great experience!
    Andy Moore
A great treat. The guide was able to talk knowlegibly about the aircraft on display. A cup of coffee on arrival would have been appreciated.
    Peter Stone
Fantastic. Paul the chap looking after the group was top draw, he had time to make everyone feel extremely welcome. The rest of the staff all had a nod and a smile. Wow the chance to actually sit in and touch something as iconic in our history was out of this world.
    Dean Nankivell
Absolutely top draw. The atmosphere, the smell the stories the history just brilliant. Great bunch of people at the Heritage Hangar. I would go again, you can't get bored of looking at these fantastic aircraft coming back to life.
    Alan Wood
We had a amazing day on our Spitfire tour the guide was excellent and was full of information the best part was for me to sit in a Spitfire I was in another world ( 1940) I would recommend this experience to anyone.Even my wife had a great day Again the guide made our day
    Tony Kingsbury
Superb. Our tour guide was extremely helpful and seemed to have encyclopedic knowledge of each aircraft's history making our visit so much more interesting. Unlimited photo opportunities making it a wonderful visit and one I will never forget. Will certainly recommend to all my friends and colleagues.
    Tim Keen
A fascinating close up view of superstructure and engines. Refreshing to see restorations and repairs that makes the planes "LIVE" as opposed to dusty museum exhibits. Paul was a mine of information and good fun. An axcellent experience. Many thanks
    Matt R
Had an excellent couple of hours. Was an extremely informative and relaxing atmosphere where you could really get engrossed in the work done by the guys at the hanger. Would thoroughly recommend taking up the chance to sit in a Spitfire as how often do you actually get an opportunity like that? The new German 109 and potential for a Mosquito in the future are even more reasons to come back in the future!
    Brian Chester
A very interesting tour of the Hangers and aircraft from Paul who knew his subject extremely well and shared his knowledge and skill with a great sense ofhumour
    Robert Harris
Excellent opportunity to visit and view the numerous restorations and servicing being carried out. Being an aviation enthusiast for more than fifty years it was always going to be and enjoyable experience. Paul was able to answer all my questions and has a vast knowledge on all the aircraft on view. Very enjoyable and a credit to the Heritage Hangar in allowing such visits to be allowed. I am already considering a re-visit with a fellow enthusiast when time allows. Thanks to all involved. Robert Harris
    Leslie Sheward
The person who showed me around the hanger was excellent he help me get the best shoots. He was full of information and showed a real interest in both me and his subject. He help make the day.
    Duncan Savage
Had an excellent time with my father in law on the Spitfire Tour last week. Our guide Paul was amazing, with a seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of the planes and their history (and the stories of the pilots who flew them). A dozen Spitfires many with combat histories plus a Hurricane and an ME109. A really humbling and exciting experience sitting in a Spitfire. Definitely worth doing even if you aren't a plane fanatic.
    Richard Bellamy
Very interesting and highly recommended ..
    John Woolard
I had the advantage of having a one to one tour, which was informal and informative. Contrast between hangers one and two, hanger one activity all round aircraft being work on. Hanger two more of a static display. Overall very good would recommend to anyone interested in the build of WWII aircraft particularly the iconic Spitfire.
    S. Cleaton-Fraser
Absolutely fantastic, I can't praise this high enough. The chance to get so close to and actually sit in such an iconic plane Is absolute bliss for any plane lover. I would recommend this to anyone with a love of planes.
    Witold
Dear people, thank you very much to Paul and others for taking a lot of trouble to make our visit today to the Biggin Hill Spitfire restoration project such a very interesting, delightful and memorable experience and good luck with your historically important work. Yours sincerely, Witold and Stefan
    Bob Clark
Excellent morning out at biggin hill , would recommend it
    Ian Wright
My son and husband hard a really great time. It was amazing and they really had a treat time
    Danny
There was so much to enjoy in visiting the Spitfire Hangar, but most of all was the completely unhurried nature of it. I expected a rehearsed walk around and a brief sit in the cockpit, but they make you feel like you have all the time in the world to ask questions and sit as long as you want in the spitfire. Fabulous.
    Michael Faul
most amazing day if your into spitfires this is for you you can look touch and sit in this most iconic of aircraft. 10 out of 10 well done into the blue.
    Nicola Hardie
    Really enjoyed the day.
    Ernie
Slightly chaotic on the day of our visit due to the up coming Battle of Britain celebrations and film crews marking the event. Also there was a delay gaining access to the Spitfire in which we would sit due to the lack of an advising/authorising email. However, we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Thank you very much.
    Mike Vidler
Nothing was too much trouble, being disabled I was followed around the hanger by our guide carrying a chair. Excellent experience, a great afternoon with as much time spent as you needed. Brilliant!!!
    James
Brilliant tour, very informative and the guide had plenty of time to answer questions and show us around their workshop. Highly recommended.
    Chris Wilson
Brilliant experience and then sitting in a cockpit was a plus. And then seeing the planes take off was a bonus. Congratulations to all concerned in keeping such an iconic plane in the sky.
    Roger Jenkins
A wonderful experience climaxed by sitting in the cockpit of the most iconic fighter ever to take to the skies; the Spitfire. Many thanks for a fantastic day.
    Gill
I bought this experience as a gift for my father and we both had a fantastic day. Everyone was very welcoming on arrival and we were fortunate enough to be able to see a Spitfire take off and land as well as walking around the whole working hangar. Robin (our guide) was extremely knowledgeable and told us all about the different plane models and their history and the highlight was when Dad got to sit in the Spitfire cockpit. Thanks to everyone who helped him in and out (as he's in his 80's and not as agile as he used to be!) A wonderful day and one which will remain with us for a long time.
    Brian Mills
A excellent and friendly tour of the Heritage hanger. You are all doing a very good job with the Spitfire,... Thanks Brian Mills Peter Stevenson
    peter swanton
A most exciting and interesting tour of the Heritage hangar and then sitting in the cockpit of an airworthy Spitfire was superb end to the visit. My only criticism would be a lack of signs to direct you to the correct location.
    Tim Sorensen
A really memorable experience to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday - loved it. Very informative and great to be so close to this part of our history as we remember the Battle of Britain. Many thanks.
    Barry Chaplin
An excellent and most informative tour. A friendly, warm environment that made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended. Thanks to all.
    Alan Goodsman
As I have replied, for sitting in the spitfire, my wife was able to talk many pictures as this was a60th birthday treat. I only wish, I could in one one day, I need to save up my pennies. Well done keep up the good work. Regards. Alan
    Alan Goodsman
The only thing that would make the perfect picture, flying helmet and goggles. Otherwise the day is great, worth every penny, the knowledge of the staff is great. Well done
    Norman Thomas
This was a really interesting visit to the hanger - what an Alladins cave full of fascinating aeroplanes and general aero workshop stuff. Superbly informal - there are no "no-go zones" inside this place. And to get up close to these amazing 'planes - if you are into the nuts & bolts of Spitfires, then this is the place for you with about 3 or 4 planes in various states of rebuild. A memorable visit.
    william webb
excellent experience, very well put together, would go again
    Gail Whittingham
Fantastic morning! Our guide was knowledgeable and took his time in talking about the planes and showing us around the hanger. An excellent experience for any Spitfire enthusiast.
    Adrian Piper
This was a fabulous afternoon out. I was bought this experience as a present and what a present it was. Our guide was excellent, very informative, knowledgeable and friendly. My wife came with me so that I would not be alone, she never expected it to be at all interesting and was not really looking forward to it at all, wow what a change. I think she enjoyed it as much as me. Thank you - I might even go again with a friend. Adrian PIper
    Mark Naylor
What a fantastic day. The staff were great, very knowledgeable and friendly. They obviously love what they do and it showed. To sit in the Spitfire was an unforgettable moment and to cap it off the two seater Spit took off just before we left - wonderful.
    Nigel Chaplin
An absolutely brilliant experience. What more can I say!
    Bill windle
The experience was excellent and the instructor was very knowledgeable. The whole day was very enjoyable would recommend to anybody that enjoys looking around the hanger and seeing the planes in various stages of repair
    Dr Dave Stephenson
Fantastic experience. This isn't a museum. It's a workshop with several planes at different stages of restoration, so you get to see much more of the inner workings. Our guide was very knowledgeable, infinitely patient and made sure that we had a good time. If you are thinking of going, don't hesitate. Just do it. You won't regret it.
    Richard shouls
Fantastic day. Instructor was very informative, patient with four youngsters, and made the whole experience brilliant. The icing on the cake was watching a spitfire take off whilst we were there. Would definitely recommend to any spitfire enthusiast.
    Baz
Firstly you get to sit in Spitfire...how cool and very very special is that... We got up very close to a number aircraft in various states of build and had a good look round the hanger... Paul was very informative and happy to chat, overall a great experience and did I mention that you get to sit in a spitfire.. Just got to start saving for the flight in one now.....
    Mr Ian Bingham
The experience was excellent, the instructor was also excellent and very patient & knowledgeable, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Only sad part about the day was that the place was very difficult to find , & insufficient parking spaces available, Any sign on the building would have been an enormous help, 45 minutes spent driving round the Aerodrome looking for the place & then trying to mount the kerb to park on the grass outside ( only space available left to park) resulted in damage to my car ( damaged engine sump, which leaked oil & had to be replaced.) so rather spoiled an excellent day.
    Terry Mason
My son and I had a great time . Great infomation on all restoration's and also there own planes and parts department with original parts from the 1940's . Then there was the sitting in the Spit what a experience. Then we was spoilt by watching 2 Spitfire's starting up then Taking off. I will be going again well recommended
    Rachel Vellender
Best day of my life. Any body that likes spitfires the VIP tour is for you.
    Ian Peretti
An excellent trip round the Hanger and a sit in a Spitfire what else could you want in a day.
    Elaine
Fantastic thank you my husband thought "he'd died and gone to heaven" lol, but obviously because he loves spits.
    Brian Dudman
An excellent tour of a working environment, allowing close up access to both airframes and work in progress. The host was helpful, knowledgeable and put information over in a non formal way. A good tour!!
    Raymond Firth
great day out. Guide very informative and knowledgeable. Great to be able to get so close to the planes, and to see so many in different stages of completion. No pressure to disappear after the tour was completed, so stayed and watched a couple of planes take off and land. Having seen the smiles on the passengers faces taking part in the spitfire flights, need to book that experience next...
    Ray Carpenter
Incredible experience to be surrounded by history The guide was very enthusiastic and totally knowledgeable and this rubbed off on all of us
    don sinden
great day out, the guide and the engineers working on the planes were very helpful and willing to explain, the whole experience was very relaxed but informative, would highly recommend to anyone , plus had the pleasure of the hurricane firing up and moving around the airfield, also sitting in the spit was breathtaking, eveyone who did had the biggest smiles you will see anywhere.
    M. Deighton
A fantastic few hours. So informative.
    Sue doyle
Fantastic day out. I loved the informal and very friendly atmosphere. We were lucky enough to see the spitfire take off and land. Loved it. Would love to do it again.
    steve hopkins
What an experience! Fantastic time spent looking around the hangar with a very experienced and knowledgeable guide.Would recommend this trip to any Spitfire fan- must book the flight one day(kids, please feel free to contribute!)Bonus sight of the day was watching the 2 seater Spitfire taking off and landing. Perfect end to a perfect day.
    Teresa O'Mara-Winch
This was a present for my husband. He enjoyed every second of the experience. Now to start saving for the flight in the Spitfire!
    Roger Tapping
Had a great visit,Paul our guide was very knowledgeable and had some good stories. The highlight was sitting in The Kent Spitfire.Highly recommended. Will visit again
    Clive Stringer
A thoroughly enlightening and enjoyable morning. Paul was friendly, knowledgeable and interesting, and access to the planes was second to none.
    Steve George
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and and found it very informative. We have promised ourselves a flight next time, perhaps a small lottery win beckons.
    Ken
it had been a lifetime ambition to sit ion a spit so I had great expectations of the 'Sit in a Spitfire' opportunity and they were greatly exceeded. The guide was an enthusiast and eager to pass on his knowledge and this added greatly to the morning. Just to see so many beautiful machines in one spot and to be allowed to wander and touch as well as sit. Wow. Thanks very much for a truly unforgettable experience.
    Peter Tiltman
My brother and I spent a brilliant few hours in the Heritage Hangar at Biggin Hill. The guide was excellent and very informative and the best part was that we had always been led to believe that there were only 2 spitfires left in the world so we absolutely delighted to see 9? In your hangar alone! A great experience all round.
    Peter Cleaver
The tour of the hanger was extremely interesting which was made even more so by a very knowledgeable guide. The work being achieved by the team on the Spifires was unbelievable.
    Chris Bunyan
How on earth do you describe the incredible sensation of actually sitting in a Spitfire? Still coming down!
    Graham Toomey
A Great opportunity to sit in and get up close to such iconic aircraft. The guide was excellent and I had a fantastic time
    Mark Brown
What a fantastic few hours i spent a the Heritage Hanger at Biggin Hill To sit in such a iconic plane as the Spitfire was a dream come true. Book and enjoy this great experience. Hopefully it will be a flight next. Thank you to all involved.
    Bob Smith
A great opportunity to get up close and personal with so many Spitfires. I would love to have seen some metalwork in progress, but obviously that depends on what is happening on the day.
    Mike
    An excellent experience, thank you
    Bill Marney
Fantastic afternoon , loved every minute -- Bill Marney
    Steve and Elaine from Newcastle
A must for any aviation enthusiast! Very emotional to sit in a Spitfire and actually handle the controls, you realise what those lads went through defending our country. Full marks to Paul for showing us around without a stop watch on the visit. Don`t expect a museum, this is a working hanger preserving some iconic aircraft. Just to add to the experience we witnessed the two seater Spit fire up, taxi out and take off. I`ve done the Lancaster taxi run at East Kirkby and this is a natural progression. Thanks Paul and crew at the Heritage Hanger,,
    Jane Collier
Wonderful morning with Paul as an excellent tour guide. very knowledgeable. we thoroughly enjoyed our tour and were amazed by the number of spitfires being restored and the time and attention to detail it takes. We were very lucky to see one take off while we were there. Would recommend this to all ages.
    Mike Gordon
Fantastic time next will hopefully be to fly in the spitfire. Very friendly staff especially Paul who gave us the guided tour nothing was to much trouble and I know of no other place you can sit in a spitfire and get up close to so many airframes being restored or maintained.
    Ashley Jones
Wonderful morning spent with Joe at the Heritage Hangar, he was not only our tour guide but works on the planes and flies them so his wealth of knowledge was totally excellent. The hangar has an air of calm about it which is most conducive to just enjoying the whole experience and I would recommend it to anyone. My only observation, and this is NOT a criticism, is that this was not a one to one experience. I had been told when booking my date that there would be two of us, not just me, as the tour was so popular. In the end there were three visitors which, as I say, was not a problem but I hope nobody comes along expecting an exclusive visit as the advert states.
    Charles Darby
What a wonderful experience. Our guide, Paul, was really knowledgeable and took time to answer all the questions. Being able to Sit in a Spit - what a fantastic day.
    Katharine Partington
My husband and I took my 85 year old father to the Spitfire Experience and all three of us had a fantastic time. The fact that the hangar is a working hangar made it so interesting - viewing at first hand Spitfires in various stages of restoration. Paul's (our guide) enthusiasm and knowledge made for a very interesting and enjoyable afternoon. We would thoroughly recommend this experience, not only to those who already have an interest in Spitfires. It is a great experience for anyone.
    Richard
Absolutely fantastic. For anyone interested in spitfires, this is a must.
    Bernie
The best Christmas present ever! From start to finish this experience not only lived up to,but far exceeded my expectations. The enthusiasm and obvious passion of the staff was infectious, the spitfires in the workshop awe inspiring and the willingness to answer all my many questions admirable. Hope to go back soon. Thank you!
    Peter
If you are an enthusiast then this is an excellent chance to get close to some very special planes, however the hanger is a working workshop and not as grand as some of the views on the web site portray it to be.
    Geoff Priggen
Very easy to arrange and worth every penny spent
    Peter Vaughan
A wonderful morning. To be able to be so close to these historic aircraft was a unique experience, let alone to be shown around by such knowledgeable people. I would recommend this 'experience' to anybody.
    Simon
For anyone interested in warbird restoration it is a must. Very informal and personal which we liked.

I purchased this for my 11 year old son and my husband and apparently it's the best day ever in there whole life . When they got back into the car for the journey home neither said a word for an hour which for my son is unheard of lol he ran into home and said don't ask me how it was because I don't know the words to tell you :) so a big thank you to everyone at Biggin hill for a fantastic unforgettable experience that will last a life time

Unique, where else can you get so close to these historic aircraft, and talk to to people who have such passion for them.

Really great event, thoroughly enjoyable time to be had by my husband and best friend (a 30th birthday gift). It's a shame that there weren't a couple more dates open to book as, travelling from "up north", isn't always the easiest or most accessible. They thought the event though was spectacular! Thank you.

Since a boy, I have always had a love of spitfires and one of my goals was to be up close to, and or sit in one (and I now want to fly in one which I understand from December you will be able to do so from Biggin Hill for a mere £2,750!). It was an absolutely brilliant experience. Paul, my guide, was extremely friendly and knowledgable and his guided tour was very detailed. He answered countless questions and I was able to take a whole memory card of photos. The best part of course was to sit in the cockpit was just an amazing experience. I was in there for over 10 minutes with Paul taking me through the controls plus taking a number of photograpahs of me. The VIP trip was close to 90 minutes and I could not fault one aspect of it. 11/10!!! I would recommend this to any spitfire enthusiast and I would actually love to do it again. I actually took a number of fliers regarding the day and have handed them to friends and work colleagues. Regards. Dave Coughlan.

I bought this as a present for my husband and he really enjoyed the experience. Paul was very knowledgeable answering any questions and very helpful. I would do this sort of thing again. Very cold in Hanger

A truely fantastic experience. I upgraded for the private tour, and also arranged a surprise tour for a friend. Paul was very friendly and knowledgable. Nothing was too much trouble, and I would highly recommend this experience. Being able to sit in the Hurricane as well was a dream come true. I'm still smiling now.

The whole experience was fantastic and was another boyhood dream come true and so much to tell to anyone I meet. Paul was very patient, knowledgeable and answered every question asked, I learnt so kuch more. What they're doing, as a business, is so important as it allows the memory of those who sacrificed so much to be honoured. All credit to all involved in for what your doing, much appreciated

    Fantastic experience

The access to the Aircraft is amazing. If you are a Spitfire enthusiast this is a "must do" trip. Sitting in the cockpit of a Spitfire was something I shall always remember, and the feeling of being so close to the history of "The Few" was truly tangible. Our guide Paul was helpful and knowledgeable, and I would thoroughly recommend this experience.

A fantastic spitfire experience not to be missed.

Relaxed and informal Paul our guide really knew his stuff and it's worth every penny.

Lot of aircraft to see and Paul is very knowledgeable and patient in explaining the history and workings of the spitfire

As an ex-RAF serviceman this was an experience which reminded me of my service days and my experiences as a young boy during the Battle of Britain. Our guide Paul was most informative and filled in many aspects of the history of this famous aeroplane. One had the sense of what those pilots went through. A fantastic day that anyone interested in that part of our history would enjoy.
    Paul Stevens
Fantastic Spitfire experience, try it you will love it!!!

An excellent experience with a very informative guide. Paul was funny and amusing, telling lots of tales and stories. A wonderful time.

I full filled a boy hood dream. It was such an emotional experience that'll never forget. Once sat in the cockpit of the spitfire I had goose bumps and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when the started talking about the life & history of the plane & the brave that flew it. Blew me away that I was sitting in a spitfire that actually flew in the d day landings. I recommend this to anyone!
    Chris Mann
We had a great time. Paul our guide and mentor was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. Whole experience highly recommended. Next time it will have to be a flight in the two-sweater Spit. I'd better get saving,

First rate..........great informal chat with Paul at the Hanger. My only regret was that because I was so absorbed, I forgot to take photos!

My friend and I (a retired RAF fighter pilot) were given a superb tour of the hangar by Paul. When Paul became aware of my friend's career he showed his amazing knowledge of all RAF aircraft past and present especially the Spitfires. This was without doubt one of the best experiences anyone with any interest at all in 2cnd World War fighters could ever wish for. Well done Paul and his team.

What a great experience. Very informative guide who is very enthusiastic about this beautiful aircraft and has time to talk and answer questions relating too it. Being able to look at a number of Spitfires undergoing restoration and seeing the engineering that goes into one of these aircraft gives an appreciation of what a splendid machine it is. Simply amazing to able to sit in the cockpit of a real Spitfire that saw action in WWII was the highlight of the visit.

Initially this was a Christmas present of Sit in a Spit for my husband. Although the voucher is valid for a year the experience isn't available all year and I feel this should be made clear on the voucher. At the time of booking there were only a couple of dates for weekends left which we couldn't make. However, on speaking to the contact at Biggin Hill we decided to upgrade the voucher to include the VIP hangar tour which was available on weekdays and which was more suitable for us. For a birthday present we also went for the Bring a Friend option for our son. Both my husband and son had a fantastic experience on the day with personal attention that would not have been available had they come on the Sit in a Spit which could mean being part of a large group. We would highly recommend to anyone who has an interest in WW11 planes, especially the Spitfire of course. We are looking forward to the day when you are able to offer a flight in one!

Fantastic day!! the team were very friendly and made us feel welcome. I would definitely recommend this experience to any plane geek!!

The VIP Hangar tour at the Heritage Hangar was terrific. Paul answered all my questions and I wasn't rushed at all. Sitting in a Spitfire was a dream come true - would definitely recommend it to a friend - especially another Spitfire nut!
