About the experience
Take one of these carriage horses through their daily routine with a Traditional Farm and Horse Experience in Yorkshire where you’ll have responsibility for all of their care, from start to finish. Although horses always look pretty and pristine in a field, not a lot of people realise just how much work is involved in maintaining and caring for them! But here, you’ll learn all about that as you call the horses in from the field, prepare their feed and learn all about grooming and their general care. As these horses are primarily used for carriage rides, you’ll also get a chance to experience driving one too which will take you back in time to when these were the most common forms of transport. Here, you’ll be shown how to work the reins and what these clever horses respond to when taking you on a journey down the quaint country lanes. But like us, horses work up a sweat after exercise and they will need to be washed down and groomed and then returned to their field or stable afterwards. Whilst working on this quaint and friendly farm you’ll gain a real insight into just how much work is involved in caring for horses, but hopefully have a new appreciation for them too. Throughout the day, you’ll be regularly supplied with refreshments including a traditional countryside lunch favourite - a ploughman’s! - Learn about the horse harness to understand how it fits and what each part does
- Washing down your horse after your cart/carriage driving session
- Returning your horse to the field or stable
