About the experience

Those based in Hertfordshire who are enchanted by the nocturnal kings of birds of prey, the owl, will be in their element on this wonderful Owl Encounter experience! Westmill Farm, nestled in the heart of the Rib Valley, which is adjacent to Welwyn and Harlow, is the home to a parliament of many varieties of owls, looked after by Charlotte and her dad, John. And over the course of your two hour experience with them, you'll meet all different species of owls, and their many unique personalities and characteristics. From Ouzo, a Siberian Eagle Owl that's a hunting ace, to the irresistible heart shaped face of James the Barn Owl, and the wittily named Earl the Great Grey Owl to Saki, the hand reared Brown Asian Wood Owl, you'll be taken in by their big eyes and ability to turn their heads to 270 degrees - and what an advantage this, along with their good hearing, gives them as carnivores hunting for their prey. And as well as hearing more about their habits and their history, you'll also get an opportunity to handle them. When you slip on the falconer's glove for the first time, you'll get to see just how amazing these incredible creatures are up close. They're actually surprisingly calm and relaxed around humans, and may even have a little squawk whilst posing for a picture with you!

This was a fantastic day, easy to book, follow up Emails with directions and I even rang to check something and was well informed. The encounter was for approximately 2 hours long,we saw 5 birds of prey and could hold them,we flew them and learnt so many interesting facts,we were in a small group of 12 or so ,lots of photo opportunities. We went into the cafe afterwards,we booked it and had the best meal, looking over the 3v lakes.

We were met by the staff and were a bit surprised that we were being charged an extra £15 just to watch which seemed excessive. We were also a little disappointed that they only flew 2 birds , showed us 2 different birds and then finished the session after an hour and a quarter instead of two hours we booked for. The staff however, were very friendly and knowledgeable. A good experience while it lasted
