About the experience
Learn everything there is to know about forging hot metals for a couple of hours, then use what you've created during lunch! Fun, friendly, and original - these classes with the skilled blacksmith Genesis Rowley are all about creativity and bonding. You can tell your host is passionate about what he does right away, and he's also an excellent teacher. Although mastering the art of hand-forging takes a lifetime, there are several very important fundamental skills that may be picked up quickly at the forge. You won't believe the intense focus on the faces of the inexperienced smithies as they work the furnace - and soon you can be one of them. That stick of dull metal will soon begin to acquire shape with Genesis' support, direction, and instruction. You'll spend some time crafting a straightforward but useful cutting knife and a pickle spike. One of the best things about a TrackDays blacksmithing class is that you will create an item you can take home to use or display proudly.

Absolutely brilliant bloke Genesis! So patient and passionate about his craft. All 4 of us came away with a great piece. Gutted we ran out of time to make the pickle fork but I'd love to book again.

A well organised, different day out. Genesis is a very easy going chap who gives good, clear instruction and his forge set-up makes it ideal for a group of 4 to have a fully immersive forging experience. Highly recommended. I would definitely do this again.

A superb experience. With absolutely no experience of the art we left feeling a tremendous sense of achievement. The tuition was skilled. With clear guidance and step by step demonstration of each key stage required to forge a basic, but to the novice a quite intricate looking (and remarkably functional) implement. Â Along with advice on how to safely handle the tools, red hot metal, the basics of the furnace, enough technical explanation as to how and why the metal behaved as it did when heated and struck ensured that each novice was able to complete their task with little or no hands on assistance from the "master" which heightens the sense of achievement. The final boost to this sense of achievement comes with being able to use the fruits of 3-4 hours of toil at the forge, around the table with the other novices consuming a basic but ample feast. Fantastic value.
