About the experience

If you’re interested in gliding, then this special Bronze Gliding Flight package is the ideal introduction to one of the most graceful ways you can get airborne. Hosted at a dedicated gliding club at Ridgewell Airfield, on the border between Essex and Suffolk, there’s a relaxed atmosphere at the airfield. And as you’ll discover, gliding is about how high you can launch, and what weather conditions are like on the day you attend. And provided the thermals are in your favour, you can expect to be taking flight for 20 minutes after launching from around 2000 ft in the air. Rest assured, you’ll be getting dedicated hands-on guidance and experience from the flight instructor up in the air, as you follow the same basic lesson structure as other gliders learning their craft. And once you’ve mastered “straight and level flight” and turning the dual control, tandem seat glider, where you’ll sit up front - so you’ll get all the best views overlooking the Essex and Suffolk countryside. Overall, it’s the perfect way for novices to start their gliding career!

it was a fine day and the pilot took the glider to 3000 feet and the flight lasted about 35 minutes, a lot of it spent finding thermals to keep the height. Thrilling experience.

Very enjoyable experience. First time I been in a glider, at 75 yrs a bit nervous but instructor very good, explained in clear language . Had a very memorable flight. We arrived early, offered us a coffee while we waited for clouds to clear.

The only thing that was a problem was actually finding the airfield .Perhaps a sign needs to be added at the triangle piece of land before you get to the airfield. Other than that it was a great experience .

Tony and his team made sure that we had an amazing time when went here again this year. My wife and I came last year and enjoyed it so much that we booked again and brought some friends with us, all of whom had an amazing time, including one friend who works as a Boeing Captain who was amazed how different the flying and landing experience was compared with his conventional mount. They even let us have a go at flying it if we wanted. Well worth it

Great experience at the Essex Glider Club Ridgewell for both myself & son, very friendly & helpful staff. Photo of me in the glider which has the markings of a B17 American WW2 Bomber which flew out of this airfield, close by is the USAAF/RAF museum if you can manage a glider flight on the days when the museum is open it make a great day out.
