Blacksmith Experience Day - Cheshire
About the experience
If you have ever wanted to learn the trade of blacksmithing, this is your chance! Join us in Cheshire and spend a day at Alex's Victorian brick forge, located in the heart of the National Waterways Museum in the Wirral. As a highly skilled heritage craftsman and member of the prestigious Guild of Master Craftsmen, Alex has extensive training in various aspects of metalwork, including silversmithing, steel fabrication, welding, and blacksmithing. With his artistic flair, he has created bespoke steelwork projects, both large and small, and he particularly enjoys commissions that showcase creativity and craftsmanship. You might have seen Alex's excellent work on George Clarke's ‘Old House New Home' Channel 4 TV show. He fashioned a stunning Art Deco-style gate for a house dating from the same era in Liverpool. Alex loves to share his knowledge, and as a student on his one-day blacksmithing course, you will be taught traditional smithing skills and techniques. Time permitting, you will have the opportunity to heat, hammer, and forge your hot metals to create a decorative hanging basket bracket and a stylish forged leaf-wrapped fire poker. Group sizes are kept small, with a maximum of four students, each with their own hearth to work on. You will be provided with all the protective gear and raw materials you need to make your masterpiece, but be prepared to get a bit grubby and sweaty - forging metal is hot work!
