About the experience

Meet the Dorchester birds of prey to learn more about the fascinating world of raptors! This falconry school is located in a peaceful area of Lewell, a village on the edge of the breathtaking Purbeck Heritage Coast. A wonderful place for people to visit as well as for the birds to live! Martin and Tara, a husband and wife duo, spotted this seven-acre former nursery in Lewell, and the idea for the project was formed. It is more of a sanctuary with a bird of prey hospital and rehabilitation facility where injured raptors can be treated and brought back to health rather than a falconry school.

  • Visit the falconry sanctuary nr Dorchester in Dorset
  • Fly and handle a variety of birds of prey
  • Meet some very rare species of raptor too
  • Relaxed experiences in a very tranquil setting

  • Get up close and personal to the owls, you will meet, hold and fly them
  • An hour experience with Barn Owls, Tawny Owls and Eagle Owls to name but a few

An excellent day out in the presence of people who are professional and care about their birds. The chance to hold and fly a number of birds is not too missed.

My partner and myself arrived at our Birds of prey experience and were greeted with a lovely cup of tea from Tara and then we were introduced to The Birds of Prey by Pete and Kyle. We got to meet and fly a number of birds and hold there eagle which weighed in at 20kgs!! But I have to say my favourite was Pip the kestrel. Wish the whole team all the best for the furture !

Extreme Falconry was a brilliant experience. We worked with six birds with two groups of people, five in one and six in the other with the birds flying between each group. Each bird landed on our arms two or three times. The falconers were very informative and caring towards the birds.

A very interesting place / project and great hands on experience of falconry. A well thought out programme and information about the birds and the art. The two 'instructors' were friendly and supportive

Brilliant Christmas present both my husband and I enjoyed. 2 hours of flying different birds of prey from barn owls to hawks. We even got to hold an eagle. The team were very informative but the day was relaxing and fun.

It was a really enjoyable experience starting with a little owl and barn owl flying to the glove, then up to another size of hawk & a beautiful Chilean Eagle, the Falconry expert was really good, giving loads of information on each bird of prey and the importance of conservation. The finale was the golden eagle to have a quick photo with before the end of the experience. The only thing that would have made it better was if the sun had been shining, as it was a very damp day, but all the birds flew really well even in the rain, A great experience.
