About the experience

There are few places to enjoy an afternoon tea for two in Shropshire that are quite as luxe as this is! Fishmore Hall, which is situated just on the outskirts of the market town of Ludlow - itself a culinary mecca - laid derelict for many years until 2007, when it came into the hands of its current owners, who helped lovingly restore the building to its original Georgian style grandeur. It boasts some of the most spectacular views across the Shropshire countryside, the Clee Hills and Ludlow Castle, and it has now become one of the county's most reputed hotel and spa resorts, with an on-site restaurant that has an expert team of chefs that has seen it be awarded Michelin listing, the AA Inspectors' Choice 3 Stars, and the AA Rosette award for culinary excellence. But this impressive mantelpiece of gongs alone doesn't do justice to just how good their afternoon tea really is. There's the platter of delicious open sandwiches, with fillings such as beef and horseradish, smoked salmon and cream cheese, and even the classic tuna mayonnaise all accounted for. As well as sweet treats such as cakes and biscuits, there's also the truly scrumptious homemade scones, which are served with a red berry compote and clotted cream, all rounded off with a pot of loose leaf tea or a cafetière of freshly ground coffee. And whether you take in your tea from the terrace if it's a nice day, or from the elegant Orangery or lounge area if the weather's not so great, it all adds up to a truly special day for those looking for a gourmet high tea with a difference.

We were 4 at the tea,our table didnt have a table cloth, which wasnt so good,we werent offered a menu like the other people having tea,but overall the tea was very good, very fresh cakes aand delicious sandwiches. We felt the staff could have spoken to us and explained what was happening. Before we sat down we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee, but no explanation of what was on offer.A lovely afternoon apart from that.

I took a friend for champagne afternoon tea. The venue was nice, we arrived early so decided to sit and have a drink oin the bar. The lounge area was very small. The afternoon tea was served in the conservatory which was accessed via the dining room. It was a very hot day and there were no blinds at the windows, they did have the doors and windows open. We asked to be seated in the shade. The food was average. The cakes were boring and looked like Mr Kiplings cut in half, although my friend said Mr Kiplings Bakewell tart was tastier. A good pastry chef would make miniature cakes, not cut them in half! The coffee machine was not working so I was given a cafetiere, this was very strong. Unfortunately, I have another voucher to use here... I would not recommend afternoon tea here, there are much nicer places to go for the money.

Second time doing this afternoon tea as I had been bought 2 vouchers. Very dissapointing and not worth the money. I have been to several venues and paid around the same but had better food. I would not recommend it.
