Learn how to fly in Somerset style with this 60 minute microlight experience across the beautiful coastline. Not only will you get the opportunity to learn a new skill but experience a slice of history. Departing from one of the country’s oldest airports, Westonzoyland, you’ll get a place among RAF and USAAF greats as this base was used during World War Two. You’ve only got to close your eyes for a little while to imagine the Hurricanes and Spitfires soaring through the skies overhead. If you’ve never flown before, you’ll be in the best hands with microlight expert Andy Buchan who is a chief flying instructor, examiner and senior inspector with many hours in the sky. With an hour session, you’ll not only be enjoying the fantastic historical landscape that stretches from Glastonbury Tor to the Bristol channel and even Exmoor national park, but you'll be given the opportunity to take the controls. Here, you’ll feel the excitement that comes with piloting a plane with this unique opportunity to learn all about flying from an expert microlight instructor. In no time, you’ll be mastering the tricky skill of straight and level flying as you breeze over the Somerset coastline. Information
- Westonzoyland Airfield, Somerset
- Minimum age 14
- Under 18s must be accompanied on the airfield by an adult
- There is no maximum age limit but a flight in an open cockpit aircraft may not be suitable for an elderly person, if you are over 70 you will need to provide a doctors note to prove you are fit to fly
- The aircraft can be quite narrow so it may be restrictive for those with a wider build, if you are unsure if you will fit in the aircraft please check before making a booking
- A good, general level of fitness and health is required
- You must be agile enough to climb into the cockpit
- If you are on any medication or have any medical conditions you will need to provide a doctors note to prove you can fly
Minimum Age: 14 years
Maximum Weight: 100.00 kg
- Spectators are welcome to come along and watch the action
- Sorry no dogs allowed
- Selected weekdays and weekends throughout the year (with some limited availability during the winter), subject to availability
- Bookings can be made up to 2 weeks in advance
- All flights are weather dependent but don't worry if your flight is cancelled you can rebook for a convenient time
- You must call the provider at 8.15am on the morning of your flight to check that you flight is going ahead
- If you are travelling more than an hour to the venue please bare in mind that flights may be cancelled at short notice
- Flexi wing voucher digital images can be purchased on the day of your flight for an additional £25
- The camera takes an image every five seconds which is downloaded to an SD card (£5 refunded when the SD card is returned)
- Toilets and tea and coffee making facilities in the onsite clubhouse

I had left it I tilt he last minute to redeem my voucher, but Andy could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. We managed to arrange a flight despite some days of inclement weather and I’m glad we did. After a good safety brief and chat about the craft, we suited up and away we went. Some great views of the Somerset levels, including Burrows Mump. I have lived here for 50 years and although I have flown over the levels in military aircraft seeing them from a two seater is a totally different experience. I would definitely recommend, and I’m trying to convince my 21 yr old daughter to book!

Andy was very good with his communication once I started the booking process. Given the time of year he kept in contact to plan the best day for weather. On arrival he was pleasant and polite, a really nice chap. You could he was really passionate about his flying. He showed me around the aircraft and explained its operation prior to flying. Then we got kitted up and airborne. He kept the communication up when we were in the air and even let me have a go. The time flew by. Thoroughly enjoyable and if you like flying you’ll love it.

What a great experience this was! Andy was a terrific host who explained everything simply and clearly and provided interesting commentary during the flight, pointing out interesting landmarks. It was like an armchair ride above the beautiful Somerset countryside.

Andy was an excellent host and an experienced pilot, he fully explained the crafts flight controls and capabilities. Taking control of the craft was easy and I felt fully in control and safe. The flight was smooth and the wind speed was not a problem. The aerial view was superb and I would definitely recommend Andy to all my friends and family. Mic and headset connect you to the pilot so you can easily converse throughout the flight.

This was a fantastic experience and being open to the elements really heightened the fun. I flew out to the coast and Andy my pilot pointed out several landmarks of interest. Taking control of the aircraft was a lot easier than I had expected and the craft was stable and responsive.....great time.

I would recommend this product. I wanted to capture my experience so on the day I took my GoPro but was unable to use it. If I knew this in advance and could have prepared so that I could have captured the trip, it might be something that would improve on the experience. Overall it was great.
The other thing I liked about into the blue was there were no hidden costs like so many other companies

A fantastic experience which is a must to try. Well organised by the instructor Andy Buchan who spared no expense with answering questions whilst on the ground and in the air. I had the chance to take control of the plane and am planning on taking my pilots licence for microlights next summer, so thrilling was the experience. Although having flown gliders in my younger years this was so much different and cant thank Andy enough for instilling the need to fly again.

Thoroughly enjoyable experience flying over areas I knew I was able to pick out my own house and surrounding neighbourhood as well as other landmarks and a flight out to the coast with Andy pointing out places of interest. I will probably do this again in the future and thoroughly recommend it.
