Celebrating Solitude: Top Ways to Honour World Introvert Day

In a world which is overwhelmingly loud, being quiet and preferring alone time can make you stand out from the crowd. Incredibly, 60% or more of the population adopt the label of extroversion, characterised by a preference for spending time with other people.

Being in the minority, introversion is often poorly understood. Despite misconceptions, being introverted doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy socialising or spending time around others, but instead, to rest and recharge you have to spend some time alone. This is getting harder as the world gets busier, however, as it’s World Introversion Day on January 2nd, we thought we’d share with you some ideas for making the most of solo time and celebrating the beauty that solitude can bring.

  • Enjoy a Day at Home

Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with simply cancelling all your plans to spend some time at home. With work commitments often draining the batteries of even the most hardy of introverts, sometimes at the end of the week all we need is to spend some time in our own space, without the distractions of others.

Make your time spent at home extra special by creating a cosy area that helps you feel relaxed and at ease. It might be a corner of the living room, a spot in your bedroom, or somewhere outside that makes you feel relaxed. Spend the time doing whatever you please or nothing at all, and recharge your batteries ahead of the working week.

  • Book an Online Course

Or, it might be that you want to spend some time at home, but try out a new activity or get involved with a new hobby. Our range of Online Courses that cover painting, cooking, interior design, book writing courses and even Beekeeping Experiences from home are a great way to switch off from the rest of the world, but work on a new skill.

Conveniently, you can take up a new hobby or work on a new skill all without having to leave your home and talk to anyone! Most of these courses are delivered from a series of online lessons which can be accessed at any point, meaning you can go through each one at your own pace.

Time spent alone doesn’t have to be boring, quite the opposite! Get stuck into a range of interesting activities all from the comfort of your own home this World Introvert Day as you celebrate the beauty of spending time alone.

  • Take Some Time Offline
One of the hardest things about being an introvert is the pressure to be extroverted and this is exemplified by the online world we are all so inevitably a part of. Everywhere we look, we can see what people in our lives and even total strangers get up to in their own time and it can be easy to let the feelings of FOMO (fear of missing out) creep in.

When these feelings strike, it’s best to ditch the devices for a while and take some well overdue time off from being online. Sign out of your social media accounts, or set a limit for the amount of time you can spend scrolling through apps, as the chances are, you’ll feel so much better for it.

  • Indulge in a Spa Experience

Being an introvert is hard work. As most of the world tends to favour socialising, going out and being around people, feeling the opposite can make you doubt yourself from time to time. But it doesn’t have to be that way, as introversion is a special power all on its own. When you’re having a down day, remember that the likes of Albert Einstein, JK Rowling and Emily Dickinson were all self confessed introverts too.

Or, you can even cut yourself some slack and indulge in the ultimate self care day with our range of Spa Experiences. Spend a day of luxury with yourself in our top locations across the country, and relax and unwind with a rejuvenating massage, facial or even try out aromatherapy. Sometimes there’s nothing like focusing on the physical body to distract you from your mind!

  • Take a Break from Humans with an Animal Experience

Even extroverts probably need a break from humans from time to time. And is there a better way to do that than to spend some time outdoors with animals? Our Animal Experiences range from crocodile feeds, horsey fun on a farm and meeting tamarin monkeys, which are all bound to fill you with joy.

Providing endless fun, these are a great way to distract you from spending time around humans as you become part of the animal world for a day. As you pet your furry friends, or get to feed curious creatures, any insecurities you have about being an introvert will gradually float away.

Whether you love spending time around others, or are more content with your own company, at Experiences UK we have a huge range of activities for every personality. We have Gift Ideas for every occasion, but be sure to browse through our Special Offers to find the perfect experience.
